Red Eye to London
If it’s September, I must be travelling to London again, on an almost weekly basis. I rise at 3am, leave the house at 4am and reach the airport at 5am. I usually take the 6.30am ’red eye’ to London (so called because of the passengers’ lack of sleep!), arriving in Victoria Station by 9am.
I try to pack 5 meetings into a day, including a working lunch if possible, I’m a happy workaholic!
I usually leave Victoria at 6pm to get to the airport at 6.30pm, for a flight at 8pm that gets me to Dublin by 9.30pm and home for 10.30 – 11pm.
Why do I do it? Because I love face-to-face meetings. I believe in the power of personal communications. I’m prepared to make the effort to meet clients where they live. I like to get a real sense of the people I am dealing with – and you can only, really, get that, face-to-face.
By the time I get home, I inevitably have a wonderful sense of satisfaction, and the pleasure of knowing that a good days’ work has been done.
